弗蘭基作為北愛爾蘭共和軍的特使前來紐約，他的使命是購(gòu)買毒刺式導(dǎo)彈，以期改變與英軍的力量對(duì)比。他通過內(nèi)線被安排在警察湯姆家中膳宿，并與湯姆一家人相處得很好。但湯姆并不知道弗蘭基的真實(shí)身份。弗蘭基與另一名共和軍成員肖恩策劃用漁船將導(dǎo)彈運(yùn)往大洋彼岸。夜總會(huì)老板是買賣雙方的牽線人，貨款由來自貝爾法斯特的梅根轉(zhuǎn)交，弗蘭基暫時(shí)將錢藏在湯姆家中。軍火商急于拿到錢，派人闖入湯姆家中。闖入者被趕走后，弗蘭基坦白了此行目的。忠于職守的湯姆要拘捕弗蘭基，并拒絕與美英的情報(bào)部門合作只身追趕弗蘭基。最后兩人都被對(duì)方擊傷，傷勢(shì)更重的弗蘭基死在湯姆懷中。
